How the Nifty Next 50 is built
NSE Indices' equity index methodology document defines the Nifty 100 as the top 100 companies by full market capitalisation from the Nifty 500, and it defines the Nifty Next 50 as the balance 50 companies from the Nifty 100 after excluding the Nifty 50 companies. The same methodology document states elsewhere that the Nifty 100 tracks the combined portfolio of Nifty 50 and Nifty Next 50, and that all constituents forming part of Nifty 50 and Nifty Next 50 together constitute the Nifty 100.
The Nifty Next 50 factsheet gives the review rule directly: the index is re-balanced on a semi-annual basis, with cut-off dates of January 31 and July 31 each year, and four weeks' prior notice is given to the market before a scheduled change takes effect. On weight, the factsheet and the methodology document both cap the cumulative weight of stocks that are not available for trading in the futures and options segment at 10% of the index, with each such stock individually capped at 4.5%, realigned each quarter on the last trading day of March, June, September, and December.
The 30 September 2026 review: 5 leave, 5 join
NSE Indices' press release dated August 10, 2026 announced the replacements from its semi-annual review of broad market indices, effective from September 30, 2026 (close of September 29, 2026). Five companies leave the Nifty Next 50: Indian Hotels Co., Lodha Developers, REC, Shree Cement, and United Spirits. The press release says all five are excluded because they leave the Nifty 100, the parent index of the Nifty Next 50. They are marked in the lists above, which show the index as it stands on 28 September 2026.
Five companies join: Hitachi Energy India, Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vodafone Idea, and Wipro. In the same review, Wipro leaves the Nifty 50 and BSE Ltd. joins it, and the press release notes that constituents of the reconstituted Nifty 100 that are not part of the Nifty 50 are included in the Nifty Next 50. The industry labels below come from NSE Indices' Nifty 500 constituent file fetched on 28 September 2026, which does not yet list Vedanta Aluminium Metal.

The list on this page is the Nifty Next 50 membership as published in NSE Indices' official constituent file, fetched for this page on 28 September 2026. Index funds and exchange traded funds that track the Nifty Next 50 hold the index's constituents, and membership changes at a semi-annual review, or sooner for a corporate event.
